In Chapter 7, I love the way the teacher uses current events and ties it back to literacy. We have done some webs in Science, and we have to do one for PTLS. I love the way the teacher uses the webs to get the interest of the students. It was kind of a prewriting technique! I remember using webs and so many different kinds before my writings. The students did something like this. It was their thought process before putting their ideas into complete sentences.
In Chapter 8, I was impressed. I think this was the first time someone has said how useless a field trip was. I am not against field trips, but I don't think students should go somewhere they are going to be bored and confused. I liked how their was a discussion on the bus about how to make a new law. The student teacher expanded the lesson to tie in with the interest of her learners. She was getting them involved with the government. This is important because so many citizens just don't know how to be involved. These students are learning at such a young age. I love how they actually wrote letters.
