Since I am taking the ESOL class, it was my last week in 5th grade! I will truly miss them! My teacher had them write stories about their experiences with the snow. We spent weeks perfecting the stories. She gave me copies of them along with letters each student wrote me. She took a grade on their letters, but most of them did well. I was impressed to see the teacher used something other than a worksheet to get a grade. Even with all the weeks I spent with these students, the letters showed me how well they can write. Some of them impress me to the point I wanted to cry! They did so well and I know they will do fine on the CRCT.
This week we played a game called coma-tition. It was so much fun! The students split up into 2 teams and have to fix the sentences, but it is like a rally. We had a GIANT comma that was passed for the next person to go. I put this up on the computer and projected it to the board. The school does not have smartboards, but we acted like we had one. The students seem to love how they are allowed to write on the board and I see more participation when I use this method.
