So the students took the practice CRCT. They did not do too well. Funny part to me was when the teacher sat at her desk and lectured the students. Then she attempted to go over each question while having her back to the students (because of the way her computer was positioned). The students had no interest as they had just taken the test in the morning. They seemed bored and most were not even paying attention. Some were talking, others were finishing homework, and some were just spaced out! After her lecture to the students, the teacher gave the students more practice worksheets! She stressed how poorly they performed on their reading and math. She did not even bother to share their scores for social studies or science. She really did not care, but most students failed both sections. She just overlooked it as if it weren't even important. I saw this exact same thing happen during conversations in the teacher lounge. Most admitted they had not even looked at the scores for S.S. or science because it did not matter to them. During the day, the teachers focus on Math and Language Arts, so why are these students scoring so poorly? Could it be the teacher? or is the students? Is it the way the teachers are teaching? Is is the parent support at home?
Through observation, I think I may know the answer.
